Our country porch swing

This is our porch swing I made this summer. I basically used plywood and two by fours. For the railing I used pine 3/4 inch boards. The hardest part was hanging it up. I had to crawl into our attic space above the porch and reinforce the rafters to make it safe. Lets just say it was one of the hottest days of the summer when I did it and hanging nearly upside down with a drill in one hand and a screw in the other.... no easy feat! It has been well worth it though. For now I just used an air mattress ( twin-sized ). Eventually I want to get a real one. The pillow and cushion covers I made using cheap fabric from a nearby outlet store. Most of the cushions I bought at thrift stores. Since the wood was basically leftovers laying around here I didn't spend more than 10 dollars! Definitely a relaxing place that's been fought over!

A few years later, the porch swing received a makeover. To see the new look click here.http://porchswingsnhoneysuckle.blogspot.com/2013/05/home-sweet-home.html

  3. I have been longing for something on my porch where I can relax and read on summer evenings. Your pics give me some motivation to think seriously about what to do about it for next summer! Love the colors/the red patterned cushions! -Rachel M
